SECTION 245 (i) Workshop for Filipino Community

Section 245 (i) Workshop for Filipino Community

Several Community-based organizations will join forces to sponsor a free workshop to provide information about the recent change in immigration law permitting immigrants to apply for their green cards in the U.S.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, March 24 at the office of the Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The Asian Pacific American Legal Center, the Filipino American Bar Association, the Filipino American Library, and SIPA are sponsoring the event to offer accurate and complete information about the recent reinstated Section 245 (i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Contrary to popular belief, the law does not offer amnesty. It merely enables immigrants to have their permanent residence applications processed in the U.S. even if they entered, stayed, or worked in the U.S. in violation of immigration law. However, it does not grant permission to live or work in this country. The workshop will feature presentations on Section 245 (i) by experienced immigration lawyers. The speakers will define the law, describe its meaning, and emphasize its limitations. They will also explain how to qualify for its benefits and procedural requirements.

Attendees will also learn how to find reliable legal help if they need further assistance. A question and answer session will follow.

SIPA is located at 3200 W. Temple St. in Los Angeles.

Attendees should register for the workshop by calling the Filipino American Library at (213) 382 0488.
