Sony Pictures Columbia Tristar's Senior Vice-President Fritz Friedman will host the second of a lecture series on "Filipino Americans in Entertainment" at the Filipino American Library on January 31, 2001 from 7-9 p.m. This lecture is a unique insider perspective at how the entertainment Industry operates, and how future Filipino Americans and Asian Americans can build their careers within the business. It showcases entertainment insiders and key players, how these Filipino-Americans distinguished themselves in Hollywood, their insights, and how they overcame the professional challenges to become the successful role models they are now.

The panel will feature Fritz Friedman as the moderator, the highest ranking Filipino-American in the entertainment industry, with Cindy Sison, Vice President of International Sales for Santa Monica Pictures; Ron Sato, Vice President of Publicity and Corporate Communications at USA Network; and Florante Sabado, Executive Director of Publicity for Columbia Pictures. Following the panel will be a hosted reception at the Filipino -American Library at 3200 West Temple St. in Los Angeles.

Fritz Friedman is the current chair of the Filipino American Library's Board of Directors. He has been instrumental in bringing in the first of corporate funding to the library from ATT, Burger King, California Wellness Foundation and Western Union. While at Sony Pictures, he currently oversees all worldwide publicity activities for CTHV theatrical releases, video products, corporate communications and special events. He is also the President/Co-Founder of Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment and sits on the Board of Directors for the LA Independent Film Festival.

This lecture series is one of the many programming activities of the Filipino American Library to bring the professionals in the fields of entertainment, health care, government, politics, law, art, music and other disciplines to the community's future young leaders and the general public in Southern California. The Filipino American Library 's collection of over 5,000 books on literature, art, cooking, politics, music, culture, religion, health, women's studies, martial arts, academic dissertations and history is the most extensive collection of Filipiniana and Fil-Americana written works. Its users include educators, students, social workers and professionals throughout the United States. The library has been used as a resource for research materials used in screenplays, scripts for Filipino Cultural Nights in various universities and for academic thesis. It has also served as a safe place to feed one's curiosity about the Philippines, its grandeur, its countrysides, its islands and to provide a psychological home to non-Filipinos who yearn to be in the Philippines and to Filipinos longing to be home.
